Webinar Description

#MeToo: What began as a social media hashtag has quickly become a cultural phenomenon.  The U.S. Equality Opportunity Employment Commission’s (EEOC) statistics for fiscal year 2018 revealed a 13.6 percent increase in harassment complaints when compared to 2017. In all, workers filed 76,418 workplace harassment complaints of all types.  The EEOC recovered nearly $70 million for complainants in fiscal 2018 – nearly a $23 million increase from 2017.

With this heightened awareness also comes a number of concerns.  Approximately 85 percent of the claims filed with the EEOC in 2018 were filed by women.  It is estimated that approximately half of all male managers have grown uncomfortable working with women in an isolated setting. In fact, in January of this year, the New York Times released a piece entitled “Another Side of #MeToo: Male Managers Fearful of Mentoring Women,” which highlighted the problems with avoiding women as a way of addressing the problem of sexual harassment.

Avoidance is not the answer – knowledge is. Knowing what sexual harassment is and how to prevent it is the only way to weather the proverbial #MeToo storm. In this webinar, attorney Robert G. Brody will discuss how to identify and prevent workplace harassment, as well as a host of other related issues.
