What HR Professionals Must Know About the New Federal Coronavirus Legislation
Duration: 90 minutes
Speaker: Dr. Jim Castagnera, Esq.
Three new federal laws usher in a new era in support for employers and employees.
- The Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act allows 12 weeks of leave to care for children due to COVID-19 school closings. 10 of those 12 weeks must be paid leave. Complementing this groundbreaking legislation is another new law:
- The Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act allows for two weeks of paid sick time for half a dozen Coronavirus-related reasons. In addition, the next round of federal relief has just been enacted:
- The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). This law impacts employee management.
Meanwhile, states from California to New York are filling gaps in the new federal scheme with legislative initiatives of their own. For example, New York is requiring restaurants to provide a week of paid sick leave to employees hurt by a quarantine order.
In these hectic times, it’s hard to keep track of this dynamic legal landscape.
Dr. Jim Castagnera, Esq., an HR compliance expert with nearly four decades of experience, has devoted himself to tracking these developments for you. He will present the most up-to-date briefing possible on these new laws that are critical to your organization.
AGENDA
Dr. Castagnera will provide:
- A detailed examination of the Emergency Family and Medical Leave Expansion Act
- A close consideration of the ins and outs of the Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act
- An up-to-the-minute status report on the implementing regulations for both new laws
- A survey of state paid-sick-leave and FML laws with emphasis on new, Coronavirus-driven initiatives and updates
