Medical leaves are governed by many laws that can create difficult compliance issues for an employer. These laws are: the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA); the Americans with Disability Act (ADA); workers’ compensation laws; the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA); and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Understanding the basics of these laws, as well as the similarities, the distinctions and the interrelationships among them , is critical to your business.
