Webinar Description

Every organization is compelled to conduct internal investigations from time to time.  The compulsion may arise from a sexual harassment complaint, a whistleblower asserting allegations of fraud, IT’s detection of an internal computer hack or misappropriation of intellectual property, or a supervisor’s recommendation of discharge for a serious breach of discipline.  The circumstances are myriad, and the need almost always arises with a sense of urgency.  You need to be prepared to act expeditiously, efficiently… and legally.

In many instances, a poorly conducted internal investigation can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.  A bungled process, resulting in allegations of invasion of privacy or defamation, or the violation of free-speech, free association or personal privacy rights, can convert a meritless accusation into a viable tort, contract or retaliation claim.

By way of contrast, a well- conceived and conducted investigation can sort the meritless from the meritorious allegations, efficiently gather the evidence needed to mount an effective defense, or staunch a potentially costly and embarrassing data breach.  Cases that might end up in years of costly litigation may be quickly and reasonably settled.  Corrective actions --- from a finger in the dike to a major policy revision --- can be identified and operationalized.

Conducting an effective internal investigation isn’t rocket science.  But also it isn’t for novices.  Knowing and applying “best practices” is the key.  This webinar lays an effective, efficient foundation for all potential investigators.
